About us

Turn it Around is a newly registered Community Interest Company, A Social Enterprise that aims to intervene creatively and sensitively in the lives of young people (primarily girls and young women) who have been caught up in the cycle of offending.

Debra Kurs was a Youth Worker on secondment for three years at Liverpool YOS 2006-2009. Recognising that many girls and young women were disengaged from supporting services, she quickly developed a one to one mentoring approach which appeared to help individuals move toward positive communication and constructive activities.

Adding to the valuable services of YOS, Debra was able to offer out of hours telephone , evening and weekend support to over 48 young women over a three year period. Encouraging re-engagement in constructive activities, education and training. Flexible working, beyond the life of the court order, had enabled many of these young women to establish links and to remain connected to positive networks within their own community and the city.

Turn it Around recognises the value of Mentoring support and it's ability to divert young people from  re-offending, developing peer mentoring skills. Helping girls and young women present their positive side!

Turn it Around provides creative intervention to girls and young women who are Looked After and ongoing support and aftercare for those  young women leaving behind YOS.

Vital to its success will be the involvement and development of those Young People who worked closely with Debra during her time at YOS. Recognising the value of their  developmental experience they have decided to stay connected to this project so they may share their insights with other young people.
